I started researching my family history around nine years ago, and what you see on this web site, is the result. In the beginning, I thought my family, the paternal side that is, came from Folkestone, but it did not take long find out that they originated from Otford near Sevenoaks in Kent. In fact four generations lived and toiled there. George Gilham started all of this in 1769 when he married Sarah Green, he had a removal order and later a settlement certificate which stated he came from Maresfield in Sussex. Now this is where it gets a little bit hazy,as I have not found his baptism in this village, but have found a George Guiliam baptism in the nearby village of Fletching so you will find ? marks against the generation before George.
Where you see other ? marks against names, these are where I have not done any research so consequently I do not know their names. At the moment I am trying to find out more about my maternal side i.e. MANSELL. Since the last update of my web pages, I have found out that George Anthony MANSELL Senior appears to be the illegitmate son of George Mowat and Mary Jane Mansell. George Mowat was a Surgeon and Physician, firstly at Swansea hospital and then later at St.Alban's. I am currently searching the Surrey Census of 1861 & 1871. You will find with some of my ancesters there are notes, some of these contain census records.
